What to Do If Your Binance Account Is Frozen? Complete Appeal and Unfreezing Guide

Don't panic after your Binance account is frozen; 95% of freezes can be restored through formal appeals. First, open the Binance official website or Binance official APP to check the reason for the freeze (there will be a red banner explanation at the top of the page after logging in). Second, prepare the corresponding materials (ID documents, proof of funds source, transaction record screenshots, etc.). Third, submit an appeal ticket through "Customer Service" in the bottom right corner of the APP. Manual review usually takes 24-72 hours. Freezes are divided into "Full Freeze", "Withdrawal Freeze", and "Trading Freeze", with different levels corresponding to different appeal methods and unfreezing times. Special reminder: Binance will never ask you to "pay a margin to unfreeze" or "pay a 1% fee" via email or SMS. Anyone asking you to transfer money is a scam! Official unfreezing is 100% free, and all appeals are conducted through the in-APP customer service or official website tickets. Never trust an "unfreezing specialist" on QQ, WeChat, or Telegram. If your APP version is old, it's recommended to update it first. Refer to the iOS installation tutorial to get the latest version, as the old version might not have the customer service entrance. This article details the unfreezing process for 7 situations categorized by the reason for the freeze.

Three Things to Do Immediately

When you notice account abnormalities, execute the following actions in order to prevent the situation from worsening.

First, immediately check the freeze type and reason. After logging in, a freeze notice will be displayed on the homepage or wallet page. Common wordings include "Your account is under review", "Withdrawal function is temporarily restricted", or "Account frozen, please contact customer service". The notice usually indicates the freeze reason code (such as abnormal C2C transactions, KYC review, judicial assistance, etc.).

Second, save all relevant evidence. Immediately screenshot the freeze notice, transaction records for the last 30 days, deposit/withdrawal records, and information of the involved counterparty (such as the ID of the C2C trading partner). These are all appeal materials. Do not delete any emails or SMS messages.

Third, do not take any "complaining" actions. Do not repeatedly submit duplicate tickets, do not shout in Telegram groups, and do not @ Binance customer service on Twitter. These actions will be considered abnormal behavior by the risk control system and will instead prolong the review time. After submitting a ticket, wait patiently.

Freeze Reasons and Handling Solutions

Reason 1: C2C transactions involving black USDT (Most common).

The USDT you bought via C2C comes from upstream black money (scam, gambling funds). Once discovered by judicial authorities, all downstream accounts associated with the involved address will be frozen. This type of freeze accounts for about 60% of total Binance freezes.

Handling solution: Submit a ticket in the APP, select "C2C Account Freeze Appeal", and upload the counterparty's ID, transaction order number, payment screenshots, and bank statements for this transaction. After Binance verifies that your purchase was normal and without subjective intent, it usually unfreezes within 3-15 working days. If the involved amount is frozen by judicial authorities, you also need to cooperate with the police investigation, and the unfreezing time may be extended to 30-90 days.

Prevention: For C2C transactions, choose Blue Shield merchants (ad color is blue) or Block merchants (ad color is gold). These merchants have deposits, and their fund sources are reviewed by Binance. Avoid ads with prices significantly lower than the market by 0.5% or more; low prices often correspond to high-risk fund sources.

Reason 2: Abnormal KYC information.

The ID document you submitted is expired, the photo is blurry, or the name and address do not match system records, triggering a KYC review. This accounts for about 15%.

Handling solution: Re-upload clear front and back photos of your ID, a photo of you holding the ID, and proof of address (utility bill or bank statement from the last 3 months) on the "Account - Identification" page. Once approved, it will automatically unfreeze, usually within 12-24 hours.

Reason 3: Suspicious login / Multiple account association.

You frequently log in from IPs in different countries, multiple accounts share device fingerprints, or your IP segment is marked as high-risk, triggering the anti-money laundering system. Accounts for about 10%.

Handling solution: Submit a ticket explaining the situation, attaching travel records (flight and hotel bookings) to explain the remote login, or proof of account ownership. Standard remote login unfreezes in 24-72 hours. Multiple account associations require providing proof of family relationships (spouse/parents/children) to lift the restriction.

Reason 4: Judicial assistance.

Judicial authorities such as police or prosecutors directly request Binance to freeze the account, usually corresponding to a scam victim filing a report. Accounts for about 5%.

Handling solution: Submit a ticket explaining the situation. Binance will inform you of the corresponding judicial assistance agency and contact information. You need to contact that agency directly (not Binance) to provide proof of legitimate fund sources. After the legal process is completed, Binance will unfreeze it according to the judicial agency's instructions. Duration varies from 30-180 days, depending on the progress of the case.

Reason 5: Large withdrawal risk control.

A single-day withdrawal exceeding the threshold (e.g., single transaction >5 BTC on the BTC network, or total >100 BTC equivalent) triggers manual review. Accounts for about 5%.

Handling solution: Usually, you just need to reply to the confirmation SMS or email sent by customer service, explaining the purpose of the funds. If there are no issues, the withdrawal function will be unfrozen within 24 hours.

Reason 6: Abnormal API calls.

The API Key is stolen, causing high-frequency abnormal trading, or a bug in your own quantitative strategy causes crazy order placements, triggering market manipulation risk control. Accounts for about 3%.

Handling solution: Immediately delete all API Keys, change your password, and reset 2FA. Submit a ticket explaining whether it was stolen or a strategy bug. If stolen, you need to provide IP logs; if a strategy bug, provide code screenshots. Unfreezes in 48-72 hours.

Reason 7: Protocol violation.

Using a VPN to access restricted regions, underage account opening, or transactions involving gambling and scams violate the Binance User Agreement. Accounts for about 2%.

Handling solution: Accounts with strict violations (like US users using Binance instead of Binance US) may be permanently closed, only allowing the withdrawal of assets within the account. Some violations (like VPN anomalies) can be appealed and restored through a commitment letter.

Standard Appeal Ticket Template

The quality of the text description when submitting a ticket directly affects the review speed. It is recommended to write according to the following structure.

Subject: [Account ID: XXX] Appeal regarding freeze due to XX reason

Body:

  1. Basic information: Registered email, phone number, account UID, KYC name;
  2. Freeze situation: When the freeze was discovered, freeze type (full freeze / withdrawal freeze / trading freeze), original text of the received notice;
  3. Event traceback: The last 1-3 operations before being frozen, explained in chronological order;
  4. Evidence materials: List the attachments, such as "Attachment 1 - ID front and back, Attachment 2 - C2C transaction screenshot, Attachment 3 - Bank statement";
  5. Request: Clearly state which functions you hope to unfreeze and the expected resolution time;
  6. Commitment: State how you will avoid triggering this type of risk control again in the future.

It is recommended to fill it out in Chinese or English. Do not use dialects or internet slang. Keep the tone objective and calm; do not complain or become emotional. Customer service agents handle hundreds of tickets every day, and a clear statement will get your issue processed with priority.

What You Can and Cannot Do During a Freeze

Operation Full Freeze Withdrawal Freeze Trading Freeze
Log in to account Partially restricted Yes Yes
View balance Yes Yes Yes
Spot trading No Yes No
Futures trading No Yes (but cannot withdraw profits) No
Deposit assets Yes Yes Yes
Withdraw to external No No No (possibly)
C2C No No No
Swap No Yes Partially yes

Many people misunderstand the "Can deposit" point—frozen accounts can still receive coins! Therefore, absolutely do not continue to deposit into a frozen account, as these newly deposited assets will also be frozen, making recovery more difficult. The correct approach is to wait until it is unfrozen before operating.

Anti-Scam Reminder (Top Priority)

Frozen users are key targets for scam syndicates. Common scams include:

Scam 1: "Unfreezing specialist" fees. Disguising as Binance employees and adding you on Telegram/WeChat, claiming "pay 500 USDT fee for quick unfreezing" or "pay 10% margin to prove clean funds". Binance official will never charge any unfreezing fees.

Scam 2: "Second review" phishing. Sending fake emails saying "Your account requires a secondary review, please log in to the following link", where the link points to a phishing site to steal your account password. All Binance reviews are done within the APP/official website, never via email links.

Scam 3: "Judicial contact" scam. Disguising as police or judicial personnel, claiming your account is involved in a case and needs cooperation for investigation, asking for your 2FA verification code. The police and judicial authorities will never ask you for verification codes via phone/WeChat.

Scam 4: "Professional unfreezing" service. Some websites advertise "helping you quickly unfreeze your Binance account, pay upon success". All legitimate unfreezing is free, and paid unfreezing is entirely a scam.

Identification key points: Anyone asking you to pay, provide verification codes, or log in to unfamiliar links is a scam. Real customer service only communicates in the in-APP customer service dialog box and will not add any of your external social accounts.

10 Tips to Avoid Being Frozen Again

  1. For C2C, only choose Blue Shield/Block merchants, avoiding low-price ads;
  2. Do not log into multiple accounts on the same device (sharing accounts with family has high risk);
  3. Before going abroad, pre-report your destination in the APP to reduce false alarms for remote logins;
  4. Test with small amounts before large withdrawals to avoid triggering risk control all at once;
  5. Update KYC information 30 days in advance before it expires;
  6. Do not use scripts/plugins to operate the account;
  7. Bind IP whitelists for API Keys to prevent theft;
  8. Do not participate in obvious pump-and-dump groups;
  9. Store assets in a decentralized manner; do not put all assets in an exchange;
  10. Turn on all security features (2FA, anti-phishing code, login alerts, withdrawal whitelist).

By following the above rules, the probability of triggering a freeze can be reduced to below 0.1%. If unfortunately frozen, calmly appeal according to the process in this article, and the vast majority of accounts can be successfully restored.
