To start trading cryptocurrency on Binance, the first step is to complete the registration and account opening process. Many beginners feel that registering on an international exchange is complex, but Binance's process has been highly simplified. It is similar to registering for a regular website account—basic registration takes about ten minutes, and completing identity verification takes just a few more minutes before you can start trading. This article will guide you from scratch through the entire process, including account creation, KYC verification, security measures, and basic deposit operations. You can register directly on the Binance Official Website or install the Binance Official APP and register within it; both methods are identical. For installation on Android and iPhone, please refer to our iOS Installation Tutorial and Android guide.
What to Prepare Before Registration
Preparing the following materials in advance ensures a smooth, uninterrupted registration process.
Required Materials
Email or Phone Number: Used for account creation and receiving verification codes. Email is recommended because it remains accessible even if you change phone numbers. Common providers like Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc., all work.
Identity Document: Required for KYC verification. Depending on your region, you can use a government-issued ID card, passport, or driver's license.
Facial Recognition Readiness: You will need to perform a facial verification during KYC. Ensure you are in a well-lit environment and remove any hats or sunglasses.
Recommended Preparation
Authenticator APP: You'll need this for Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). Install Google Authenticator or Binance Authenticator beforehand from the App Store or Google Play.
Secure Network Environment: It is recommended to use your mobile data or home WiFi. Avoid public WiFi to prevent account information theft.
Step 1: Create a Binance Account
Registering on the Web
- Open your browser and go to the Binance official website.
- Click the "Register" button on the home page.
- Choose your registration method: Email or Phone Number. Email is highly recommended.
- Enter your email address.
- Set a login password: At least 8 characters, including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers. Use a strong, unique password.
- Enter a referral code if you have one to enjoy trading fee discounts.
- Check the box to agree to the Terms of Service.
- Click "Create Account."
Registering in the APP
If you have already installed the Binance APP:
- Open the Binance APP.
- Tap "Register" (found on the bottom or the initial splash screen).
- Choose Email or Phone registration.
- Fill in your details and set a password.
- Enter a referral code (if any).
- Complete the registration.
Complete Email/Phone Verification
After submitting, Binance will send a 6-digit verification code to your email or phone. The code is valid for 30 minutes. Check your inbox (including the spam folder), find the email from Binance, and enter the code to complete verification.
Step 2: Complete Identity Verification (KYC)
Once registered, you can log in, but you must complete identity verification to deposit and trade. This is a global financial regulation requirement to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.
Importance of KYC
KYC (Know Your Customer) not only meets regulatory requirements but also benefits you: it unlocks higher deposit and withdrawal limits and makes account recovery easier through customer support if any issues arise. Accounts without KYC have strictly limited functionality.
Verification Steps
- Log in to Binance; usually, a guide pops up. You can also go to Profile → Identity Verification.
- Select your nationality/country of residence.
- Fill in basic personal info: Name (matching your ID), date of birth, and residential address.
- Select document type: ID Card is usually the fastest to process. Passport is also an option.
- Upload document photos:
- Take clear photos of both the front and back of your ID.
- Ensure all four corners are visible, with no blur, obstructions, or reflections.
- Use the original physical document, not a scan or photocopy.
- Perform facial recognition:
- Align your face within the on-screen frame.
- Follow prompts for specific actions (e.g., blinking, turning your head).
- Ensure good lighting and no facial obstructions like hair or glasses.
Review Time
Most KYC applications are reviewed automatically and completed within minutes. During peak times, it may take a few hours, or up to 1-3 business days if manual review is required. You will receive a notification once approved.
Step 3: Set Up Security Protection
Before you start trading, it is strongly recommended to finalize your security settings. Once a crypto account is compromised, assets are almost impossible to recover.
Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
2FA is your most important line of defense. Even if your password is leaked, attackers cannot log in without the 2FA code.
Recommended: Use an Authenticator APP (over SMS):
- Install Google Authenticator or Binance Authenticator on your phone.
- In the Binance APP, go to: Profile → Security → Binance/Google Authenticator.
- The system will show a QR code and a backup key.
- IMPORTANT: Write down the backup key on paper and keep it safe. You need this to restore 2FA if you lose your phone.
- Open the authenticator app, scan the QR code to add Binance.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the app to complete binding.
Set Up an Anti-Phishing Code
The anti-phishing code is a custom string that will appear in every official email from Binance. If an email claiming to be from Binance lacks this code, it's a phishing attempt. Go to Profile → Security → Anti-Phishing Code to set it up.
Withdrawal Whitelist (Advanced)
Once enabled, you can only withdraw crypto to addresses in your whitelist. This prevents attackers from moving assets to their own addresses if they gain access. Go to Profile → Security → Withdrawal Whitelist to enable.
Step 4: Understanding Deposit Methods
After registration and security setup, you need to fund your account to start trading.
P2P (C2C) Trading
This is the most common way to buy crypto with local fiat currency. You buy directly from other users using methods like bank transfer, PayPal, or local e-wallets.
- Go to "P2P Trading" or "Buy Crypto" in the APP.
- Select the coin (USDT is recommended as a stable start).
- Enter the amount you want to spend.
- Select a reputable seller based on their rating and price.
- Place the order and transfer funds to the seller via their provided payment info.
- Click "Transferred, notify seller" after paying.
- Once the seller confirms, the crypto is released to your Binance account.
Cryptocurrency Deposit
If you already hold crypto in another wallet or platform, you can deposit directly.
- Go to "Deposit" in the Binance APP.
- Select the coin and the corresponding network (e.g., USDT-TRC20).
- Copy the generated deposit address.
- Send crypto from your other wallet to this address.
- Wait for blockchain confirmation.
Important: Ensure the network matches on both the sending and receiving ends (e.g., both must be TRC20). Choosing the wrong network will result in asset loss.
Beginner Trading Advice
Start Small: Don't invest large sums immediately. Familiarize yourself with the interface and process with small amounts first.
Understand Spot Trading First: Beginners should stick to spot trading (buying and selling assets directly). Avoid futures and margin trading initially, as they involve much higher risk.
Control Risk: Only invest money you can afford to lose. The cryptocurrency market is highly volatile; be prepared for the possibility of losing your investment.
Beware of Scams: Never believe "guaranteed returns" or "risk-free" claims. Never share your password or 2FA codes with anyone. Binance support will never ask for them.
