Forgot your Binance password? Complete tutorial on how to reset it

If you've forgotten your Binance password, you can reset it in as little as 5 minutes: click "Forgot Password" on the login page, enter your registered email, open your email to find the Binance verification link and click it, pass 2FA and SMS verification, and then set a new password. Resetting the password does not require customer service intervention and can be done entirely as a self-service. However, for security reasons, after a password reset, Binance will enable a 24-hour withdrawal cooling-off period for the account, during which all withdrawals, convert, and P2P selling functions are suspended; spot trading and deposits are unaffected. You can initiate a reset on the Binance Official Website or by opening the Binance Official APP. Because the APP integrates a facial recognition process, the cooling-off period can sometimes be shortened to 1 hour after successful verification. If you haven't installed the official APP yet, please refer to the iOS Installation Tutorial to download the genuine version first. Never click "Binance" links in search engine advertisements—many are phishing sites that prompt "password error" to trick you into entering your password repeatedly. This article covers web reset, APP reset, not receiving emails, the cooling-off period, and scenarios where 2FA is also lost.

Preparation Before Resetting Password

Before clicking "Forgot Password," confirm three things.

First, confirm you didn't mistype the password. Many times it's not a forgotten password, but Caps Lock being on, an input method switching characters, or a space included when pasting. It's recommended to copy the password into a text box to view the characters in plain text first, then check your keyboard status. Binance triggers a captcha slider after 5 failed login attempts and locks the account for 1 hour after 10 failures.

Second, confirm your email is accessible. The core channel for password reset is your registered email. If you've also forgotten your email password or cannot log in, you need to resolve the email issue first. Corporate email users should note that if you leave the company, the original corporate email might be revoked; use the APP to change your Binance email to a personal one in advance.

Third, confirm your 2FA authenticator is available. If you have Google Authenticator enabled, the reset process will also require entering a 6-digit dynamic code. If the authenticator is also lost, the process becomes more complex, requiring a dual "reset 2FA + reset password" flow, which can extend the time from 5 minutes to 24-72 hours.

Web-based Password Reset (Most Common)

Step 1: Go to the login page. Visit the Binance official site in your browser and click "Log In" in the top right. Below the login box, there is a "Forgot Password?" link; click it.

Step 2: Enter email and captcha. Enter your registered email address and complete the slider captcha. After clicking "Send Email," the system will send a verification email to your address, usually with the subject "[Binance] Reset Your Password."

Step 3: Click the link in the email. Open your email, find the Binance message (check for the anti-phishing code), and click the "Reset Password" button inside. This link is valid for 30 minutes; if it expires, you need to resend.

Step 4: 2FA verification. After jumping back to the Binance page, the system will ask for your Google Authenticator code and SMS verification code. If both pass, proceed to the next step. If 2FA is lost, click "2FA authenticator lost" to enter an additional process.

Step 5: Set a new password. The new password must be at least 8 characters and include three categories: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols. It cannot be the same as your last 3 passwords. It's recommended to use a password manager (like 1Password or Bitwarden) to generate and save a random strong password.

Step 6: Facial recognition (for some users). Depending on the risk score, Binance may require liveness facial recognition, uploading a 3-5 second video. Use the front camera in a well-lit environment without obstructions; the success rate is about 98%.

After completing these steps, the new password takes effect immediately. You will receive a confirmation email stating "Password changed successfully," and the account will enter a 24-hour withdrawal cooling-off period.

APP-based Password Reset

The APP process is basically identical to the web version but with higher integration. Open the Binance APP, click "Log In," enter your email, and then click "Forgot Password." The APP may automatically open your email app or directly detect the email; some models can complete verification with "zero jumps."

One advantage of the APP is the ability to directly call the phone camera for liveness detection without needing to authorize web camera permissions. If you initiate the reset on your original device (the one used for registration or a frequently used one), the risk score is higher, and the cooling-off period might be shortened from 24 hours to 1 hour, though this is not guaranteed.

What to Do If You Don't Receive the Reset Email?

This is the second most common issue. Follow this troubleshooting order.

First, check your spam folder. Gmail, Outlook, and others may identify Binance emails as ads or suspicious. Search for "binance" in the spam folder. Once found, add the sender address to your whitelist to avoid future blocking.

Second, check your email storage quota. If your email storage is full, new emails cannot be delivered. Clean up old emails and resend from Binance.

Third, wait 5 minutes and resend. It's normal for Binance emails to have a 1-5 minute delay during peak periods. Repeatedly clicking "Resend" within 60 seconds might trigger frequency limits and actually delay delivery.

Fourth, confirm the email is the one for the current account. Some users forget which email they registered with; try your list of emails one by one.

Fifth, submit a support ticket. If all of the above are ruled out, your email provider might be blocking Binance, or there's an anomaly with your account's email configuration. Click "Support" in the Binance APP and submit a "Reset password email not received" ticket, uploading your ID for manual processing, which usually takes 24-48 hours.

About the 24-Hour Withdrawal Cooling-off Period

The cooling-off period is a vital security mechanism at Binance. Its purpose is to give you enough time to discover anomalies and save your account if a hacker steals your email and 2FA to reset your password. The rules are as follows:

Function Available During Cooling-off Period?
Spot Buy/Sell Yes
Deposit Yes
View Balance Yes
Futures Trading Yes (but balance cannot be withdrawn after closing)
Withdraw to External Address Disabled
Internal Transfer (Friend Transfer) Disabled
P2P Selling for Cash Disabled
Fiat Withdrawal Disabled
Convert to Other Coins Yes (not counted as withdrawal)

For urgent needs (e.g., you need to withdraw BTC to a cold wallet immediately), you can contact support in the APP to apply for an "Emergency lifting of cooling-off period," requiring proof of account ownership and manual approval after identity verification. Actual experience shows this can shorten the time from 24 hours to 4-6 hours.

Handling Simultaneous Loss of 2FA

If you forgot your password and also lost your 2FA authenticator, the process is: click "2FA authenticator lost" on the password reset page to enter the 2FA reset flow. The system will ask you to upload photos of both sides of your ID, a photo of you holding your ID, and record a video saying a specific phrase. All materials are reviewed manually.

Review time is 24-72 hours (might be longer on holidays). Once approved, the original 2FA is removed, and the password reset email is sent again, allowing you to finish resetting your password. During this entire process, the account is completely locked—no login, no trading.

Security Hardening After Resetting Password

Once the new password is active, we recommend immediately doing four things.

1. Check login history. View all login IPs and regions for the last 30 days on the "Account Security - Device Management" page. If you find an unknown IP, click "Remove" immediately and change your password again.

2. Check API Keys. Go to the "API Management" page to see if there are any unknown API Keys. Hackers often create API Keys after stealing accounts to steal assets over the long term. Delete any unknown keys immediately.

3. Check withdrawal records. Review "Wallet - Transaction History - Withdrawal" to confirm all withdrawals in the last 30 days were your own. Contact support to freeze the account immediately if any anomalies are found.

4. Enable withdrawal address whitelist. After setting a new password, add your frequently used cold wallet addresses to the whitelist and enable "Whitelist only withdrawal." Even if your password leaks again, attackers won't be able to transfer assets out.

How to Completely Avoid Forgetting Passwords?

Using a password manager is the ultimate solution. Tools like 1Password, Bitwarden, and KeePass can generate and encrypt-save passwords of any strength. You only need to remember one master password; the tool handles the rest.

Another simple method is a paper backup. Write your Binance password on paper and lock it in a safe or a secure place at home. The advantage of a paper backup is immunity to cyberattacks and device damage; the disadvantage is you can't take it with you on trips. Many veteran investors insist on a dual backup of paper + password manager.

The least recommended practices are recording passwords in phone notes or using browser auto-save. If your phone is lost or your computer is hacked, your passwords are fully exposed.
